If you are longing to look better in your cute jeans and having trouble meeting that goal, you might be surprised at the technology that is available to you. There are NEW techniques in liposculpture that offer a gentler, kinder and absolutely safer technique for removing unwanted fat. This technique has three important parts:
Step 1: Tumescent fluid is used to bathe the areas to be treated. Tumescent fluid is a very dilute mixture of saline with lidocaine (an anesthetic) and epinephrine (to close off the blood vessels around fat cells). This important step adds additional time and effort on the surgeon’s part but is well worth it for the patients. The use of tumescent anesthetic minimizes bleeding during the procedure making it so much safer. It also decreases bruising and leads to shorter recovery time.
Step 2: Liposculpture is performed with the use of very small “cannulas” or metal tubes. These tubes are as small as the tip on a pen, which is a major advance in technology. They are connected to a suction tube to pull the fat out. Because they are so small, we no longer have to make large openings to do the procedure, so, the scars left are very small. So small, in fact, that they do not even require stitches. This allows us to deliver amazingly precise sculpting minimizing the risk for irregularities (lumpiness) and allows for more smooth results. It also ensures less trauma during the procedure which leads to less bruising and faster recovery.
Step 3: “Lipolite” laser lipolysis – is the latest in laser lipolysis (like Smart Lipo). With Lipolite, a special tiny cannula with a laser tip is inserted in the openings made for liposculpture and the areas are heated using the laser. This provides more coagulation so there is less bleeding, less bruising, faster recovery. Another important advantage is that heating the skin during liposculpture will allow for better skin contraction. For older patients at risk for loose skin after lipo, Lipolite is a major advance.

Acne is not just a problem for teenagers; it can affect people from ages 10 through 40. It is not unusual for women, in particular, to develop acne in their mid- to late-20s, even if they have never had a breakout. Acne can cause a lot of trouble with self-esteem for those with severe cases. It can appear on the skin as any of the following, wherever there are oily (sebaceous) glands, mainly on the face, chest, and back:
Congested pores
Whiteheads
Blackheads
Pimples

For severe acne, we treat our patients with Photodynamic Therapy. The process includes washing the face with acetone. Then a light microdermabrasion is performed. We apply the Levulan (which is activated by the laser light) to the area being treated and it is left on for about 30 minutes. Then the levulan is washed off and laser treatment follows.
Levulan is a 20% solution of ALA (Aminolevulonic Acid is natural substance found throughout our body). The Levulan targets active acne cells and is absorbed by the sebaceous glands. Once the levulan is activated by the laser’s light the skins oiliness decreases. The appearance of pores is minimized, and the entire skin texture improves.
